THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO

THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO
Patrick Ness
2008
479 Pages

From Back Cover:
Prentisstown isn't like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone else's thoughts in an overwhelming, never-ending stream of Noise. Just a month away from the birthday that will make him a man, Todd and his dog, Manchee-whose thoughts Todd can hear too, whether he wants to or not-stumble upon an area of complete silence. They find that in a town where privacy is impossible, something terrible has been hidden-a secret so awful that Todd and Manchee must run for their lives. But do you escape when your pursuers can hear your every thought?
My Thoughts:
This story starts with a bang when we are dropped into Todd Hewitt's world. It's a dark, bleak place where Todd is just weeks away from his thirteenth birthday when he will officially become a man according to Prentisstown Law. He has grown up his entire life infected with a germ called Noise that not only killed all females but allows all males to hear one another's thoughts. There are no secrets in Prentisstown-or so Todd thinks. Until one day while exploring he stumbles upon a spot of silence in a swamp and a huge discovery that has him running for his life. With an army hot in pursuit we are taken on an adventure both thrilling and exhausting.
The ending brings the reader to a dead stop that had me yelling-"What the French Toast!" I will without a doubt be getting my hands on the second book of the Chaos Walking Trilogy-The Ask and the Answer. I really need to know what happens next!
A big Thank You to Candlewick Press for sending me this awesome ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I will be passing this ARC on to the winner of a contest!
