A cool twist on Neil Patrick Harris's New Autobiography

Book will allow readers to “star in N.P.H.'s life,” making decisions he made — or didn't — to see how his life turns out.

In a world before the Internet, an entire generation was enthralled by “Choose Your Own Adventure” books. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, young readers devoured these books that literally put you at the heart of the story. Neil Patrick Harris was the right age during these years to appreciate these books, and he must have fallen in love with them. Why else would he be penning his “Choose Your Own Autobiography”?
NPH Tweeted an image of the cover to his book, which perfectly captures the pulpy feel of those late-20th Century “Choose Your Own Adventure” books. “You are the star in N.P.H.'s life story,” promises the cover. The book is available for pre-order now at NPHBook.com.
As the books description reads, “In this revolutionary, Joycean experiment in light celebrity narrative, actor/personality/carbon-based life-form Neil Patrick Harris lets you, the reader, live his life … You will decide whether to try out for “Doogie Howser, M.D.” You will decide whether to spend years struggling with your sexuality.”
The unique autobiographical experiment also promises magic tricks, cocktail recipes, embarrassing pictures, and even a song. The book goes on sale October 14.
